
Six Current, 13 Total Eagles Headed to Women’s National Team Camp

A total of 13 current and former BC women’s hockey players are headed to the Women’s National Festival

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Six members of the forthcoming 2016-17 Boston College women's hockey team – and a total of 13 Eagles overall – are headed to USA Hockey's annual Women's National Festival, which will be held August 8-14 at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.
The six members of the 2016-17 BC women's hockey team headed to Lake Placid are sophomore defenseman Grace Bizal, junior goaltender Katie Burt, junior defenseman Kali Flanagan, junior defenseman Megan Keller, freshman forward Caitrin Lonergan and sophomore forward Makenna Newkirk.
Additionally, seven former Eagles are among the 95-player roster: defenseman Lexi Bender '16, forward Alex Carpenter '16, defenseman Emily Pfalzer '15, forward Haley Skarupa '16, forward Kelli Stack '11, forward Allie Thunstrom '10 and forward Dana Trivigno '16.
Also headed to Lake Placid is the Eagles' associate head coach, Courtney Kennedy, who will serve as an assistant coach for the Under-18 squad.
In total, nine members of the Eagles' record-setting 2015-16 squad are headed to the Team USA camp, the largest continent from any one team – high school, college or professional – that played together last season.
The festival is an annual training session that will also be used to select two 22-player rosters for a pair of series against Canada held simultaneously from August 17-21 in Calgary, Alberta, at Canada Olympic Park. The U.S. entries will feature an Under-18 Select Team and Under-22 Select Team.
Twenty-one members of the U.S. Women's National Team that won gold at the 2016 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship – including Carpenter, Keller, Pfalzer, Skarupa, Stack and Trivigno – and 21 members of the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team that won gold at the 2016 IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship will take part in the festival. The complete roster includes 32 defensemen, 54 forwards and nine goaltenders.
In addition to the American players headed to USA Hockey's camp, senior forward Kristyn Capizzano is headed to camp with Canada to compete for a spot on the Canada U22 roster. Canada's camp will be held Aug. 5-21, in Calgary, Alberta.
