Canada National Women's Development Team Showcase Roster
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College senior forward and assistant captain Kristyn Capizzano has been called in for Hockey Canada's National Women's Developmental Team Summer Showcase, which will be held August 5-21, in Calgary, Alberta.
Capizzano is one of 42 players called in to the camp, which includes 35 players who will play collegiately in the U.S. this season. Camp participants will be vying for a place on the 23-player roster that will face the U.S. Under-22 Select Team in a three-game series, August 17-20, in Calgary.
The selection camp will also include Sweden's national women's team, and a select team of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) players who will be aiming to represent Canada at the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in January.
Capizzano attended Canada's 2014 and 2015 Development Team camps. She also attended Canada's summer strength and conditioning camp in May.
Capizzano was a member of the gold-medal winning Canada squad at the 2015 Nations Cup, which was played Jan. 3-6, 2015 in Fussen, Germany. Capizzano scored one a goal, coming against Sweden in the gold medal game. Capizzano is also a two-time gold medalist at the IIHF U18 World Championships (2012, 2013), captaining the team in 2013.
Entering her final year at BC in 2016-17, Capizzano has made 116 career appearances for the Eagles, scoring 78 points from 31 goals and 47 assists. She posted her best season to date last year, recording a career-high 30 points from 9 goals and a personal-best 21 assists. She enters the season ranked 24th on the Eagles' career scoring list.
The Eagles, who wrapped up the 2015-16 season with a 40-1-0 record, finished the year with their best-ever final ranking of No. 2 in both the U.S. College Hockey Online and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The team's 40 wins were the second-most in a season in NCAA history. In 2016-17, the Eagles are set to return 17 players from this year's team and will add seven freshmen to the roster.
