Meet the 2016-17 Eagles: Jesper Mattila
July 14, 2016 | Men's Hockey
Jesper Mattila will make his way to The Heights from Finland with brother, Julius, and looks to bolster the Eagles' defensive corps
Jesper Matilla will join his brother, Julius, on The Heights as part of Boston College's 12-man incoming class, the largest under head coach Jerry York.
Â
Unlike his brother, Jesper is a defenseman for league champion Ilves U-20, but still finished with 37 points (4-33-37) in 47 showings en route to claiming the Finnish league title in Jr. A SM-liiga. Mattila was assistant captain his club.
Â
The 6-foot-0 Fin's 33 assists were the most assists by any defenseman as the lefty was named a Jr. A SM-Liiga First Team All-Star.
Â
Alongside Julius, Mattila helped Team Finland to the silver medal in 2014-15 as part of the U-18 World Junior Championship.
Â
Mattila has demonstrated his penchant for leadership all throughout his career as an assistant captain for the Finnish U-16 and U-17 Teams in international play.
