Meet the Newest Class of Eagles

18 freshmen and three graduate transfers join the BC ranks
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College football team added 21 student-athletes to its roster on National Signing Day as student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to play at The Heights in the fall. Three members of the class are already on campus, enrolling early to take spring semester classes and work out with the team.
                                  Â
"We had a chance to sign a great class, which we are excited about," head coach Steve Addazio said. "We were able to do a great job coming in here and winning the first couple of years. We've been able to supplement with the fifth-year players at some critical positions. The unanticipated part of that was that we had multiple injuries at multiple positions. Now our roster is full. We still face a very young, developmental football program given the fact that the bulk of our class is first- and second-year players. They are talented and we are excited about our team right now."
Â
The 2016 signing class is made up players from 13 different states, including eight within a five-hour radius of Boston College. Four players hail from New York, two from Massachusetts, two from Pennsylvania, two from New Jersey, two from Texas and two from Georgia. The Eagles also gained members from Michigan, North Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Florida and Maryland.
Â
Along with the 18 freshmen, Addazio welcomed three graduate transfers: OL Jimmy Lowery, QB Patrick Towles and P Satchel Ziffer. Two freshmen – QB Anthony Brown and LB Ethan Tucky – along with Towles are already on campus, taking classes, working out and will practice in the spring.
Â
Eleven members of the 2016 class attended private or Catholic high schools and 14 incoming student-athletes were team captains. Ten attended a BC Football Camp. Of the 18 freshmen, 15 earned first-team all-state accolades including OL Sean Ragan, who was named ESPN Boston's Lineman of the Year, and WR Kobay White and DB Hamp Cheevers, who were both three-time all-state selections. Ragan and LB John Lamot participated in major postseason all-star games as Ragan traveled to Carson, Calif., for the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl and Lamot helped North Carolina defeat its neighbor to the south in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
Â
The Eagles retooled in all three phases of the game, picking up 11 offensive players, eight defensive players and two punters.
Â
On offense, BC picked up two quarterbacks, two tight ends and two wide receivers. For the second year in a row, five offensive linemen signed to play at BC, nicknamed O-Line U for producing a high number of professional linemen.
Â
On defense, the Eagles added three linemen, three linebackers and two defensive backs. Punters Ziffer and Carlson Grant joined the Eagles on special teams.Â
