Carpenter, Keller, Skarupa, Trivigno will head to Canada at the end of March
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Four current members of the top-ranked Boston College women's hockey team have been named to the U.S. National Team that will compete in the 2016 IIHF World Championships next month in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Senior forwards Alex Carpenter, Haley Skarupa and Dana Trivigno and sophomore defenseman Megan Keller will look to help the U.S. defend its gold medal in March and April's event. All four players were members of the 2015 world championship team.
Additionally, two alumnae of the Eagles' program - Emily Pfalzer '15 and Kelli Stack '11 - were also named to the 23-player squad by head coach Ken Klee.
Carpenter has been a member of the national team since 2013 and also represented the U.S. at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. She was the assistant captain of the 2015 World Championship team. Keller, Skarupa and Trivigno all debuted with the full national team in 2014 at the Four Nations Cup.
Stack is a two-time Olympian (2010, 2014), while both Pfalzer and Stack were members of the gold-medal winning team at the 2015 Four Nations Cup. As a senior at BC last year, Pfalzer joined Carpenter, Keller, Skarupa and Trivigno on the 2015 World Championship team.
The U.S.' full schedule for the 2016 IIHF World Championships is available here. The United States opens play in the tournament against Canada on Monday, March 28 at 10:30 p.m. ET. Finland and Russia are also in the American's group. The quarterfinals are set for Friday, April 1, with the semifinals on Sunday, April 3 and the Gold Medal game on Monday, April 4.
The U.S. will conduct a seven-day training camp in Everett, Wash., March 18-24, ahead of the World Championships. A complete on-ice schedule is available here. Should Boston College advance to the Frozen Four (March 18 and 20), the Eagles' national team players would report to the U.S. training camp following the conclusion of the team's season.
The U.S. squad was selected following the USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp that was held December 27, 2015 to January 1, 2016, in Blaine, Minn. Six current Eagles and three alumnae participated in that event, the most from any college.
The U.S. is the defending world champion and has won five of the last six world championships (2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015).
Boston College (34-0-0, 24-0-0 HEA) returns to the ice this weekend when they kick off postseason play in the Hockey East Tournament Quarterfinals. The top-seeded Eagles will host eighth-seeded Maine in a best-of-three series at Kelley Rink. Faceoff is set for Friday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. Should a third game be needed, it will be played on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
