Nwankwo Looks For Title in 400m
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.—The men's track and field team prepare for this weekend's ACC Indoor Championship. The Eagles are hosting this year's championship at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury, Mass.
The men's events begin on Thursday afternoon with the Heptathlon and DMR. The rest of the running and field events will begin on Friday, with the men's mile at 2:25 p.m starting the day and the 5,000 meter final ending the evening. The bulk of the finals races will occur on Saturday, where the ACC Champion will be crowned at 4:25 p.m.
Junior Obinna Nwankwo headlines the group of Eagles headed to the Reggie Lewis Center. Nwankwo enters the meet coming off a historic performance at the BU Scarlet and White three weeks ago. Nwankwo won the 400 meters while also setting a new BC record in the event. Nwankwo, as well as Darren James and Oliver Boucher, will be competing in the 400m at ACC's this weekend.
Sophomore Evan Gray will be competing in the fifth heat of the 800 meters. Fellow sophomore Gabriel McLarnan joins him in the event. The two qualified for the event with sub-1:54 times, each of which occurred at BU earlier this season.
The Eagles have a pair of runners in the 3000m event as well. Freshman Sean Burke enters his first ACC Championship following a great performance at Terrier Invitational, posting a time of 8:34.70. Junior Brian McDavitt will join him, having ran his season low at the BU Valentine, crossing the line at 8:34.67.
Sophomore Nicholas Nash will be the only Eagle competing in the 200m this year. Nash tore up the track at the BU Valentine two weeks ago, posting a new PR with a time of 22.36.
The Upperclassmen will anchor the 5000m for BC. Senior Nicholas Denari qualified for the ACC's with his performance at the Scarlet and White, crossing the line at 15:13.48. Junior Kevin Sullivan will be his wingman, competing in heat 1 as well. Sullivan qualified for the championship with a superb performance at the Terrier Invitational, posting a time of 14:58.32.
The ACC Championships can be viewed on ESPN3 on Friday from 5-8pm and Saturday from 1-4pm.
