CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College senior defensive end Kevin Kavalec earned a spot on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team, the organization announced on Thursday. It is the second straight year he was named to the team.Â
Â
The Middleburg Heights, Ohio, native has recorded 34 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for a loss of 18 yards, in eight starts this season. He also has assisted on a sack and has a fumble recovery. Kavalec tied a career high with 10 tackles at Virginia Tech on Sept. 17 and notched four solo tackles, including one TFL, in the win at Massachusetts on Sept. 10.
Â
An economics major in the Carroll School of Management, Kavalec was named Boston College's Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2015 and earned a spot on the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team as a junior and sophomore. He has also garnered the Athletics Director's Award for Academic Achievement all three year of his BC career.Â
Â
To be nominated for CoSIDA All-Academic Teams, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average at his current institution. Members of the Academic All-District First-Team advance to the Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
