Lonergan Honored as Hockey East’s Rookie of the Month

Eagles’ freshmen forward leads all freshmen nationally in goals
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College forward Caitrin Lonergan was named Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Month for September/October on Wednesday by the conference.
The Eagles' freshmen has led all Hockey East freshmen in scoring since the start of the season, and ranks second nationally in freshman scoring. Her six goals are the most in the nation by a freshman, while her 11 points are tied for third overall in the conference among all players.
To kick off her collegiate career, the Roslindale, Mass., product has recorded at least one point in eight of the Eagles' 10 games, including a pair of multiple-point games: two assists at Maine on Oct. 15, and three points (1-2-3) in the 4-1 win at No. 3 Quinnipiac on Oct. 22.
Lonergan's three power-play goals are tied for second-most in the NCAA and her 84 faceoffs won were the most by a freshman in the NCAA last month.
This is Lonergan's first Hockey East honor of the season.
The fourth-ranked women's hockey team returns to action this weekend when the Eagles play a home-and-home series with Commonwealth Ave. rival Boston University. BC will host the first game at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, before the teams play the return game at BU's Walter Brown Arena at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.
