POSTGAME QUOTES
Boston College Football at NC State
October 29, 2016
BOSTON COLLEGE
Head Coach Steve AddazioÂ
"I'm proud of our football program. I'm proud of our football players and team. They played with unbelievable resolve and took a step forward today in learning how to bring the best out of each other. It was a goal we had and we did that today. To win this game today took something out of everyone. Everyone had to contribute, and that's where we are right now. We have a collection of guys that are battling everyday."
"This team has a a lot of faith in each other and this program, and that comes from the administration down. I'm really proud to be coaching this football team. I know it's only one game but we took an important step today. NC State is a really good football program with a great defense, and we played them on the road. We had time of possession for almost 35 minutes which is a critical stat."
"It was a hard fought game, and like I said I'm really proud of our team and the way they battled but more importantly I'm just proud of the resolve they had in each other in realizing how we had to win here. We had to collectively execute together and it takes everyone right now. That's okay with us. We'll continue to grow and develop this football team. We had 18 freshmen and sophomores on the field today and 13 of them on defense. That's cool because we're going to have a lot of people that are going to be here for a while and they learned a valuable football life lesson today."

On whether there's pressure or calm in a situation like that faced at the end of the game…
"It's just calm for me. Honestly because throughout the week – preparation – I know that my preparation is going to carry me through, no matter the situation."
Â
On the goal-line interception…
"All week we knew that in the red zone they put the formation into the boundary, single receiver into the field, and that he was about to fade. So, I had the outside leverage and just cut the ball; he threw it to me."
Â
On the first ACC win of the season…
"It's big time. This is what we've been waiting for. We pushed through."
Â
Sophomore TE Tommy Sweeney
On his catch coming off of a lob pass…
"Honestly, it wasn't that bad of a ball. It was a little wild leap. But it came to me right where it was. I just kind of turned and saw it, it was right there. Saw that puppy – but I didn't see it for that long – I turned, caught it. It was an amazing feeling."
Â
On the aggressive play-calling on the day…
"The coaches called a phenomenal game. They were switching stuff, we were switching right back at them. Coaches did a phenomenal job. All our guys bought in. And we did it, we did a lot of aggressive play calling. We had the ball for 35 minutes, and you can't really teach that."
Â
Graduate QB Patrick Towles
On getting the start after being injured in the game last week against Syracuse…
"I was kind of limited. Monday's are our off days, Tuesday and Wednesday I was a little limited. It got progressively better each day. I knew that Thursday was a light day anyways so I took about half the reps on Thursday, then Friday was a walk-though. I got a lot back then and I felt good enough to go. It was going to take a lot for me not to play in this game, and I'm glad I did."
Â
On the go-ahead touchdown…
"We repped that play for a couple weeks. Davon (Jones)'s been practicing; he loves it, obviously. He gets to throw the ball, so he gets excited about that. He got a great look forward. It was a very aggressive call, which I love. And then we had the two-point conversion, which was great; it put us up seven. And then the kick; Mike Knoll, who was probably player of the game for us, made that game-saving tackle. Then Kam (Moore) came through huge on that big INT. Just a wonderful team effort in all three phases, it was really fun to be a part of."
Â
Junior DL Harold Landry
On the Eagles' pass rush…
"We knew what type of protections they were going to do, but we didn't know that we had a good idea of what they were going to do, versus our look that we were going to give them on third down, on first and second down. They tried to go faking against us on first and second down but I think we were pretty prepared for that. We just had a really good game plan put together for us and we went out and executed."
NC STATE
Head Coach Dave Doeren
"Obviously I'm very disappointed that we didn't find a way to win that football game and I take responsibility any time we don't. There were plays that we could have made and didn't, there were calls that we could have done better and didn't, and it always comes back to me. I know this, I'm not going to walk in there and point fingers at anybody, we're going to go back to work. We've got four games left and we've got Florida State here next week and we've got to play a lot better, a lot better."
"There were a couple plays obviously in that game, when you have a touchdown called back on a formation and you give up a play on a trick play where our eyes were bad. There are always plays within a game that we have to play better. We knew coming into this game that they were a good defense and we knew that we had to maximize our opportunities and when we could score we needed to, and obviously we didn't do that enough."
"Defensively, I thought we played pretty well until the last halfback pass play, where we had a bust in coverage, a guy playing over aggressive in the run game and trying to make a play. We've got to get back to fundamental football and coaching these guys hard and continuing to hold everybody accountable within the program and working at it and find a way to beat Florida State."
