Sunday morning was the first official practice for the 2016-17 season for the Boston College women's basketball team. Head coach Erik Johnson has 14 players on the roster and his team will be led by seniors Kelly Hughes, Emilee Daley and Kailey Edwards.
Â
Boston College will open the season on the road at Hartford on Nov. 11 but will return for the home opener at Conte Forum on Monday Nov. 14 against Boston University.
Â
Tickets for the 2016-17 women's basketball season are on sale now. Season ticket memberships, which include reserved seats, are just $56, while mini-plan and group deposits are also being accepted. For more information, visit bceagles.com/tickets, or call 617-552-GoBC (4622) to speak with an account representative.
Â
At 9 a.m. the team gathered in Power Gym to begin the 2016-17 season. The team ran through a number of warm-up and finishing drills as well as conditioning and offense and defensive work.
Â
The Eagles return a number of starters from last year's team including Hughes, junior Martina Mosetti and sophomore Mariella Fasoula.
Â
Along with Hughes and Mosetti, other returning guards are sophomore Stephanie Jones, r-junior Rachel Gartner along with rookie Taylor Ortlepp.
Â
Daley, Edwards and redshirt junior Ella Awobajo will share time at the small forward spot along with rookies Jasmine Taylor and Georgia Pineau.
Â
Fasoula, who was an All-ACC Freshman Team honoree last year, and junior Katie Quandt welcome two freshmen Emma Guy and Shannon Ryan to handle the middle of the floor. Guy can also swing to the forward spot alongside Fasoula or Quandt at center.
Â
The Eagles also added a new assistant coach in Jesyka Burks-Wiley, who played her college ball at Boston University. The team also welcomed former Bentley All-American Lauren Battista as a graduate assistant. Locals will remember Battista when she led the Falcons to the 2014 National Championship.
