Boston College (11-2) lost its first ACC game of the season on the road at Virginia Tech, 58-32, on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles are now 11-2, while Virginia Tech improved to 13-1.
BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Kelly Hughes finished with seven points, while r-freshman Ella Awobajo chipped in with six points and six rebounds.
- Virginia Tech's smothering defense held the Eagles to just two points in the third quarter.
- Virginia Tech held an early five point lead on a jumper by Dominque Powell. An 8-2 Hokie pushed the lead to 12-7. The Eagles slowly chipped away and ended the half on a 10-1 run. The Eagles took a 15-13 lead on a three-pointer off an inbounds at the buzzer.
- After both teams went scoreless in the first two minutes of the second quarter, the Hokies outscored BC, 13-2, to take a 26-17 lead. BC's offense sputtered as the Hokies stepped up. The Eagles scored just 10 points in the quarter while the Hokies scored 20, including three three's – BC 25, V-Tech 33.
- Boston College was held scoreless in the first five minutes of the third quarter. Virginia Tech took a 40-25 lead as the Eagles were shooting just 24.1 percent from the floor.
- The fourth quarter opened up much the same as the Virginia Tech defense smothered the Eagles. BC was shooting 18.4 percent from the floor with 6:22 to play in the game and Virginia Tech held a, 51-27, lead.
- BC's offense never got going as they were held to just seven second half points.
- Boston College will play at No. 15 Florida State on Thursday, Jan. 7 in Tallahassee. Fans can watch the game on ESPN3.
