HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One:
Katty Workman scored the game's first point of the day with one of her 23 kills as she helped the Eagles take the first set 25-23 over the host Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. With the score tied 3-3, the Eagles fired off three straight points courtesy of a Mallori Moffatt kill, a forced GT attack error and a combined block from Kam McLain and Sol Calvete to go up 6-3. The opening frame had a combined six tied scores as the Eagles and Yellow Jackets exchanged scores back-and-forth. With the BC lead 21-18, the Maroon and Gold extended their lead to 24-21 and despite two straight points from the home team, Georgia Tech committed a service error that awarded the Eagles the first set.Â
Set Two:
Boston College took the second set by an identical score of 25-23 to jump out to a 2-0 lead behind a combined 17 kills and 17 digs from the Eagles in the second. Georgia Tech led early 5-1, but the Eagles were able to come back and take their first lead of the set at 10-9. The two teams swapped points for most of the second frame and with the score tied at 16-all, BC went on a 3-0 run to take their largest lead of the day. After the Yellow Jackets came back and tied it at 22-all and took a one point lead, the Eagle finished the set with three straight points behind a kill and two attack errors to win the second set of the afternoon. Katty Workman also recorded her seventh kill of the game in the second set, which placed her first all time on the Boston College career kills leaderboard, surpassing Kelsey Johnson's record of 1,449 kills.
Set Three:
The third set was another tight one between Boston College and Georgia Tech that went extra points, as Georgia Tech was able to fire off two straight points with the score tied 27-all to get on the board with a 29-27 victory.Â
Set Four:
The fourth set finished by a score of 25-23 again, but this time it was in favor of the Yellow Jackets as they took the fourth set, which enabled them to force the decisive fifth set. After Georgia Tech tied the score at 18-18, they finished on a 7-5 run. The Eagles brought the score to within one as they trailed 24-23, but a timely kill from GT ended the fourth set.
Set Five:
Georgia Tech won the final three sets of the afternoon after taking the decisive fifth frame 15-9. The Yellow Jackets held leads of 6-3 and 11-4 and despite a BC attempt to get back into the set, Georgia Tech took the finale 15-9.Â
COACH QUOTES:
"An amazing display of heart and effort. I was so proud of how our team competed for every single point. There's no quit in this group. We have to learn to execute specific things a little more consistently, but I like where we are headed."
