Eagles 11th in First Directors Cup Standings

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College is ranked 11th in the first release of the 2015-16 Learfield Sports Directors Cup standings, which includes fall championship sports. BC collected points in women's cross country (28 pts.), field hockey (60 pts.), women's soccer (25 pts.) and men's soccer (73 pts.).

This is BC's highest rank in the first fall release under the current format sponsored by Learfield Sports. In 2009-10, the second year in the updated format, the Eagles were 14th in the first release. Last year, the Eagles accumulated 78 points in the fall to rank 48th in the mid-December release that included the same sports.

BC (186 pts.) is one of seven ACC schools in the top 20, joined by leader Syracuse (347.5 pts.), third-place Virginia (295 pts.), fourth-place North Carolina (232 pts.), sixth-place Notre Dame (210.5 pts.), No. 14 Duke (173 pts.) and No. 19 Florida State (156 pts.). There are 135 schools ranked in the first release of the 2015-16 report.

All 12 of the ACC teams that have earned championship points this fall are ranked in the standings' top 42 as Clemson (No. 24), NC State (No. 29), Wake Forest (No. 40) and Louisville and Virginia Tech (tied at No. 42) also appear in the first release.
