BC-PENN STATE MEET IN BIG TEN/ACC CHALLENGE
• Boston College will host Penn State on Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
• The game will be televised on ESPNU and can be heard on the radio on WEEI 850 AM and bceagles.com.
• Boston College started the season 3-0 for the first time since 2008, but lost all three games over Thanksgiving weekend in the Wooden Legacy.
• Penn State had lost two in a row before coming back to beat Bucknell at home on Saturday, 62-58.
BC IN THE CHALLENGE
• Boston College is 6-2 all-time in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
• That includes a 3-1 home record and a 3-1 record on the road.
• The Eagles last competed in the Challenge in 2013 when they lost at Purdue, 88-67.
• Penn State is the other team to beat BC back in 2011. The Nittany Lions won that contest in Conte Forum, 62-54.
• BC defeated Penn State in the Challenge in 2012, a 73-61 victory.
• Freshman Olivier Hanlan scored 22 points in that game and Boston College withstood a furious late-game rally from Penn State to hang on for the win.
EAGLES LOSE TO SANTA CLARA IN DIRECTV WOODEN LEGACY FINALE
• Graduate student Eli Carter scored a game-high 16 points as Boston College lost to Santa Clara, 62-45, on Sunday night in the DIRECTV Wooden Legacy in Anaheim, Calif.
• Carter scored 13 of his points in the second half. He was 6-for-11 from the field after halftime.
• Carter also had six rebounds and three assists.
• Senior Dennis Clifford and freshman A.J. Turner both had 10 points.
• The two teams were tight for most of the first half. With the score tied, 21-21, Santa Clara scored the final 12 points of the half in the last 5:27 to take a 33-21 lead into the locker room.
• Henrik Jadersten scored eight of the last 12 points.
• Boston College could not make a run in the second half and the lead never got below double digits.
LAST TIME vs. PENN STATE
• Freshman Olivier Hanlan scored 22 points and Boston College withstood a furious late-game rally to beat Penn State, 73-61, on November 28 in University Park.
• The Eagles led by 20 with 6:21 left before an 18-1 run got Penn State within 60-57 with 3:05 left, led by Jermaine Marshall and D.J. Newbill.
• Hanlan's three-point play on a jumper in the lane ended the spurt, and Andrew Van Nest's open layup gave Boston College a 65-59 lead with 1:52 left.
• Joe Rahon added 14 points for Boston College, which built its big lead off a run of 3-point shooting in the second half and defensive lapses in the lane by Penn State.
• Marshall and Newbill led the way, scoring all of Penn State's points during the late run by forcing turnovers and attacking the basket. Marshall's three with 3:39 riled up the Jordan Center crowd before Newbill went one of two from the line to get within three.
• Hanlan and Rahon settled Boston College down at the line, and Penn State lost its best offensive weapon after Newbill fouled out with 1:11 left trailing by six.
• Hanlan, Rahon and Lonnie Jackson hit threes during a second-half run that helped turn a five-point lead into the 20-point bulge.
• Van Nest broke free in the lane for a 3-point play on a dunk and a late foul by forward Sasa Borovnjak to start the second-half run for Boston College. Van Nest finished with nine points off the bench.
