- A three-year starting guard and captain of the 1939 Boston College football team that played in the Cotton Bowl.

- Was an All-East selection as a senior as he led the Eagles to their first-ever bowl appearance.

- Spurned offers to play professional football to embark upon his lifelong career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

- Inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 1980.
