Tom McElroy '80
- Came to Boston College as a midfielder but switched to the
goalkeeper position as a freshman. He eventually set school
records for most games played (43), most shutouts in a
season (10), most career shutouts (20), and lowest career
goals-against average (1.05).
- Although he was ill during his senior season, he continued
to play. His final appearance was a 3-1 ECAC playoff
victory, the Eagles' first soccer championship.
- An endowed scholarship that carries his name and rekindles
his memory will always keep Tom McElroy a part of the Boston
College soccer program.
- Inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall
of Fame in 1987.
