William Gilligan '40
- Coach, Teacher, Friend, and Champion to generations of
Boston College student-athletes.
- A gifted runner and weight man himself, he was a member of
the Boston College team that set a Millrose Games relay
record in 1939 and won numerous championships in field
competition throughout the East.
- His Boston College track and field teams were perennial New
England champions in both indoor and outdoor competition,
and scores of his athletes won regional and national
championships.
- Inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall
of Fame in 1973.
