L. Sheldon Daly '58
- Established in 1991, the William J. Donlon Special
Achievement Award is given to those individuals who, in the
judgment of the Varsity Club Hall of Fame Selection
Committee, have demonstrated uncommon dedication and
performed supererogatory service to Boston College
athletics, both on and off the fields of play. The award is
named in honor of Reverend William J. Donlon '31, in
recognition of more than sixty years participation, service,
and devotion.
- Few individuals have contributed as much time and
talent to the Boston College Varsity Club as L. Sheldon
Daly, Jr.
- A long-time member of the Varsity Club, he served as
Club Treasurer for 10 years (1986-1995). During that
time he organized and directed the Club's Hall
of Fame Banquets with unequaled success and helped
establish the "Wall of Fame" - featuring
all inductees' plaques - along the west corridor
of the Silvio O. Conte Forum.
- Daly also was instrumental in forming the "Hall
of Fame Club" - a popular home game social
venu during the Boston College football season.
Proceeds from the Hall of Fame Club have benefited
Boston College's Olympic Sports teams and
Sports Medicine services.
