Remembering The Man In The Red Bandana
Sept. 11, 2013
Twelve years ago today, 22 Boston College alumni were among nearly 3,000 who perished in the 9/11 tragedies in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, DC. In 2003, a memorial labyrinth on the lawn of Burns Library was dedicated as a space for prayer, peace and consolation in memory of those alumni.
Among those killed that day were former BC lacrosse player Welles Crowther who, by many accounts, saved as many as a dozen people on that fateful day. BC grad Drew Gallagher '99 won an Emmy for a piece he produced for ESPN, "The Man in the Red Bandana." Gallagher was a friend of Crowther at BC; the piece was written by Tom Rinaldi and narrated by the actor Edward Burns.
In honor of all who perished on 9/11, Boston College Athletics remembers The Man in the Red Bandana.
