BC Teams Excel in NCAA Academic Progress Report
June 11, 2013
Boston College sports teams continued to rank high in the latest report card on the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR), which was released Tuesday.
Nine BC sports teams scored a perfect 1000 on the APR. The nine teams included men's golf, men's skiing, men's outdoor track, softball, women's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, women's swimming, women's indoor track and women's outdoor track.
The BC football team scored a 982 on the report, one of only nine BCS institutions to score 980 or higher. Of those nine institutions, four were members of the Atlantic Coast Conference (Boston College, Clemson, Duke and Georgia Tech). ACC teams were among the high percentage of athletic teams at Division I colleges and universities that meet standards and excel academically.
The Academic Progress Rate, a multi-year rate based on the most recent four years of data, is a real-time measure of eligibility and retention of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. The most recent APR scores are based on scores from the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years. This year marks the ninth year of APR data for most teams.
