• Jim Reid is entering his 46th year coaching, his 44th at the collegiate level and his fourth season at Boston College.
• Begins his second straight year coaching the defensive ends at BC. In 2018, oversaw two of the nation's most dominant ends in Zach Allen and Wyatt Ray.
• Allen was an All-ACC second-team selection and finished his career in the top 10 in school history in sacks and TFLs. He was a third-round selection by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft.
• Ray set a school record with 4.0 sacks in a game at Wake Forest in 2018 en route to All-ACC third-team honors. Ray went on to sign as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns following the 2019 NFL Draft.
• Oversaw a defense in 2017 that had three players selected in the 2018 NFL Draft (Harold Landry, second round, Tennessee Titans; Isaac Yiadom, third round, Denver Broncos; Kamrin Moore, sixth round, New Orleans Saints.
• Boston College was third nationally in pass efficiency defense in 2017.
• Boston College was 12th nationally in interceptions (18) in 2017.
• Lukas Denis was tied for second nationally with seven interceptions in 2017 and was named a Walter Camp Football Foundation Second Team All-American.
• Four defensive players earned All-ACC honors in 2017, including linebacker Ty Schwab (led the team in tackles).
• Defensive coordinator for one of the nation’s best defenses in 2016 at Boston College.
• Led a BC defense that ranked on eight top-10 lists nationally, including ninth in total defense (314.2 yards/game), second in sacks (3.62 sacks/game) and 10th in turnovers gained (27) in 2016.
• BC tied a single-season school record with 47 sacks, equaling the mark set in 1994 when Reid was also the defensive coordinator at Boston College.
• Oversaw a defensive unit that featured the nation’s leader in sacks and forced fumbles (Harold Landry).
• Helped develop Landry into an All-American during his junior season (Walter Camp, AP).
• Landry’s 16.5 sacks set a new BC single-season record.
• Saw two of his starters on defense selected in the 2017 NFL Draft: free safety John Johnson (third round, Los Angeles Rams) and linebacker Matt Milano (fifth round, Buffalo Bills).
• Coached three players on defense who earned All-ACC honors in 2016 (Harold Landry, Connor Strachan and Matt Milano).
• Came to The Heights from Iowa, where he was the linebackers coach for three years (2013-15) and helped the Hawkeyes go 12-0 in the regular season reaching the No. 4 spot in the College Football Playoff poll before falling in the Big Ten championship.
• The Hawkeyes ranked 22nd in the nation in total defense (341.0 yards/game) and 15th in rush defense (121.4 yards/game); in 2014, Iowa ranked seventh in the nation in pass defense (175.9 yards/game) and 22nd in total defense (344.2 yards/game) and mentored All-Big Ten Second-Team honoree Quinton Alston.
• In his first year at Iowa, coached three senior linebackers who each recorded over 100 tackles and earned all-Big Ten recognition: Christian Kirksey, who was selected in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft by Cleveland, Anthony Hitchens, who was selected in the fourth round by Dallas, and James Morris, who signed with New England as a free agent.
• Named National Linebackers Coaches of the Year – along with LeVar Woods – by FootballScoop as Iowa’s defense ranked among the national leaders in total defense (sixth), first downs allowed (seventh) pass defense (ninth), scoring defense (ninth), pass efficiency defense (17th) and rushing defense (19th).
• Served as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Virginia for three years (2010-12); in 2012, the Cavaliers ranked fourth in the ACC in total defense (353.3 yards/game), fourth in pass defense (208.4 yards/game), third in first downs allowed (18.6) and fourth in third-down conversion defense (30.7%) while UVA linebacker Steve Greer earned first team All-ACC honors as he ranked second in the league with 122 tackles; in 2011, led by first-team All-ACC selections Chase Minnifield (CB) and Matt Conrath (DT), the Cavs finished third in the ACC in total defense.
• In his first season overseeing the Dolphins' outside linebackers, Joey Porter produced a career-high 17.5 sacks, second in the NFL as Miami won AFC East Division championship title for the first time in eight seasons; Porter’s sack total marked the most ever by a Dolphins linebacker and third-most overall.
• Was the head coach at Virginia Military Institute for two seasons (2006-07).
• Spent one year as the defensive line coach at Bucknell in 2005 before being named the head coach at VMI.
• Spent the 2004 season as the defensive line coach at Syracuse, when the Orange were Big East co-champions and played in the Tangerine Bowl.
• His nine-year run as the head coach at Richmond (1995-2003), included a pair of Atlantic 10 Conference championships and five finishes in the FCS Top 20 rankings; selected as the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year on two occasions in 1998 and 2000 and the Yankee Conference Co-Coach of the Year in 1995.
• Left Richmond as the program's third-winningest coach with 48 victories and led the Spiders to the first 10-win season in program history in 2000.
• Spent one year as the defensive coordinator at Boston College in 1994, when the Eagles went 7-4-1 and as 11th-ranked team in the nation, defeated Kansas State in the Aloha Bowl on Christmas Day; BC recorded 47 sacks that season, a school record that still stands.
• Before coming the head coach at Richmond, was the defensive coordinator for Richmond in 1992 and 1993.
• Led Massachusetts for six years from 1986-1991, compiling a 36-29-1 record as the head coach and guiding the Minutemen to three Yankee Conference titles; named the Yankee Conference Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1990.
• Spent 13 seasons at UMass as an assistant and won six Yankee Conference titles in that span; coached outside linebackers in 1975 and defensive backs in 1976 and 1977 and from 1978-85, served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
